A colleague asked me the other day what places I would recommend taking their family to. Damian and I love to explore our surroundings with Sutton. There are many more places that we need to explore, but here are a few highlights from this year.
1. Spier Wine Farm
We went to Spier today. We originally planned to go to Root 44 Market but didn’t realize that they were still under renovation, so we headed to Spier instead. What an absolutely breathtaking setting. We grabbed some food from their cafe and went and lounged on the grass. It is the perfect place for families with kids of any age. There is so much to do, see and explore.

2. The Alpaca Loom
I first saw Alpaca Loom on a bloggers Instagram story and knew we had to try it. It exceeded my expectations. We did the insightful farm tour, where we learnt many facts about alpacas. You can also buy granola and feed the alpacas while sipping on a coffee (excellent coffee at that). There is also a jungle gym and other animals like goats, a camel and geese.

3. Giraffe House
We went to Giraffe House before lockdown happened. It was such a delight! With friendly (and hungry) giraffes to feed, other animals to view (meerkats, sheep, lemurs etc.) and a jungle gym. I would highly recommend a visit to Giraffe House.

4. The Company’s Garden
We had been to The Company’s Garden a few times before having Sutton. I knew that I wanted to take him there someday to see the squirrels. The squirrels are exceptionally tame, and it’s a great short outing before heading off somewhere else.

5. Butterfly World Animal Sanctuary
We went to Butterfly World once when Sutton was younger and again today. Although there currently aren’t any butterflies (due to the international borders being closed, they cannot bring in any pupae), it is still great to see the other animals on offer. It is, of course, magical when all the butterflies are flying all over and seeing their different colours.

6. Ipic Play
We have been to Ipic Play twice (once before and once post lockdown). I have to say that this is great value for money. It will keep your child entertained for hours, and you can grab a coffee or meal too while they exhaust all their energy.

7. Deer Park
Last but not least – Deer Park. Deer Park was one of the first places we ventured out to post lockdown. We truly love that park, and its offerings. It has various jungle gyms, slides, swings etc., with plenty of space. Since lockdown, you can now order a meal/coffee inside and enjoy it the park.
