Eight Months In

This week, Sutton turned eight months old. That means I spent precisely four months at home with him, and now I have had four months physically back at work. About a week or so ago, I found myself feeling emotional. People tell you how quickly time goes. But I honestly feel that until you are ‘in it’ yourself, you truly don’t understand the concept. Time is the gift which unfortunately doesn’t keep on giving. Blink and you miss it.

Every day I find myself whispering to Sutton “You are my baby”. But the reality is that my baby is growing so fast. Sutton has been doing the army/leopard crawl for months. He has recently (within the last two to three weeks) started to crawl correctly (on all fours). He has been sitting for a while, but now puts himself into the sitting position (that only happened last Monday). The developmental milestones happen so quickly. I don’t think that we can completely comprehend how astonishingly powerful a baby’s brain is. The amount that they absorb and grow is miraculous.

The truth is that I love every second with Sutton. Yes, even the hard ones. At times, he won’t let me put him down for a second to do something urgent in the house or for work. I genuinely don’t mind. It’s because I know, I know that one day these moments will be but distant memories.

This baby boy has brought so much joy to my heart. More than I could ever possibly verbalise. Happy eight months beautiful boy.

Sutton, from day one I would just stare at you in awe,

Your beauty shone through in every ounce of your being,

It was the happiest place that I have ever been.

Months roll by so quickly, and my love for you grew too,

Watching you advance and progress is a privilege for your mama bear to view.

Always remember my love, even when the dark moments roll in,

This mama will protect you forever and ever, Amen.
