The wait is finally over, Sutton Nate Tsouris made his debut into this world on Friday, 26th of October at 11h37. He weighed in at a healthy 3.15kgs and was 51cms tall. With his arrival, our world became a brighter and happier place.

Damian and I awoke at 04h45 on Friday morning for my last breakfast before surgery (and mommyhood). We got ready for the day and left home at 05h50 so as to avoid traffic to get the hospital. “Check in” time was 09h00 but anyone who knows Cape Town traffic knows that to get anywhere before 09h00 you need to leave home hours in advance.

Damian and I waiting to go in to surgery

We arrived at Life Kingsbury Hospital where we were greeted with friendly smiles at reception and made our way to the maternity ward. We got ready for the procedure and around 10h50ish were wheeled to the theatre. I will spare you the gory details, but I loved every moment of the surgery. I wasn’t afraid, I wasn’t nervous, I was just so ready to meet him. Towards the end of my surgery, once Damian and Sutton had gone upstairs to the nursery, I started to have an allergic reaction to one of the medications administered. Unfortunately one of the physical reactions to the drugs was that my eyes swelled shut. The most frustrating and the worst part about my childbearing experience was that I couldn’t bond by sight with my son after the surgery. Thankfully, after a few hours, I was able to see more clearly and take in every inch of Sutton’s perfection. And Sutton is exactly that…perfect. I could literally stare at him for days. It’s a mom thing right. It is mind-blowing to think that you created this little human and that just a few hours ago he was still all comfy inside of your belly.

Our first family photo

We were fortunate enough to have a private room for our stay at Life Kingsbury Hospital. The first night I was alone, and the second and third nights, Damian joined me by sleeping at the hospital. We live about 30-40 minutes away from the hospital, and it was such a wonderful chance to bond as a family. I would like to make a special mention to the nursing staff. We were treated phenomenally. They were so gentle and understanding in all that they did. Their attention to us and each individual situation is humbling. I would recommend this hospital to anyone and everyone. I was thoroughly impressed.

Two of our special visitors - this was a day after the surgery. My eyes were still slightly swollen and bruised.

I love this photo! It looks like Sutton is smiling at Cath

Yesterday, we were discharged from the hospital and made our way home. Man does it feel good to be home. Our house truly feels like a home.

My brother and his fiance, Chane, meeting Sutton at the hospital

Thank you to everyone for your wishes and love during this amazing time in our lives. Damian and I are overwhelmed with love for our friends and family, as well as our very own newest family member.

My handsome men

Sorry this is short and sweet, but I have the most unbelievably cute new-born to go stare at.
