1. The Break (Number one out of six)

I was on my way back from a gruelling work trip. You know the one. The one that gives you sleepless nights and the thought of whether to a. Down a bottle of wine or b. Book a plane ticket to another country and never return. I had some time to kill so my colleague and I decided to get lost in the book store.

After the said gruelling trip, I needed to take my mind off of things. Maybe book that holiday in a cheaper way, by escaping into a book.

I chose The Break because it was a chance to escape, not have to think too hard and it was exactly as the title reads - a ‘break’.

A brief synopsis: Amy and Hugh are married for a good few years when Hugh decides he needs a six-month break. Gulp! The book is how Amy deals with this break and what this break means for their relationship.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. But there are terms and conditions: It certainly pushes the boundaries and makes you think of relationships in a different light. Relationships are complex and messy and this book beautifully captures these. It was also easy to read with short and to the point chapters.

However, don’t expect fireworks. This is for the person who needs a quick escape and doesn’t need to delve down the rabbit hole.

Shortly, I move onto the next book - Finding Gobi by Deon Leonard.

Wish me luck, I LOVE dogs and this is bound to be a tear jerker for me.

If you are interested, let’s read the book together and give each other feedback afterwards.

Happy reading my fellow bookworms.
